The Benefit Line
For some, survival comes with paperwork.

Every Thursday morning, a queue forms outside the benefits office in South London. Among them: Rosa, a recently laid-off carer; Dev, a former youth worker navigating the cruel wait for Universal Credit; and Malik, a father of three caught between sanctions and spiralling debt.

Told over a single day in line, The Benefit Line weaves together their stories - their frustrations, hopes, and quiet defiance - against a backdrop of broken systems and unseen struggles. As tensions simmer and lives intersect, the film reveals the crushing normality of poverty and the small acts of humanity that keep people going.

Bleak, biting, and deeply compassionate, The Benefit Line lays bare the reality of life on the margins in modern Britain - where every form, every delay, and every “computer says no” can shape a future.
